Montreuil-Bellay is in the Department of Maine-et-Loire in western France and was our first stop on this trip. It is 15 km to the south of Saumur, and is famous for the Château de Montreuil-Bellay, which is situated in the centre of this Gallo-Roman village high on a hill on the banks of the Thouet River. It is listed as a “monument historique” by the French Ministry of Culture.

Nowadays Château de Montreuil-Bellay is also the name of a premium wine made on the property. Guess who’s had some 🥴
