It is famous for its chocolate industry, Moorish and Christian festivals and its fishing gastronomy, it is also a city full of history.
Like neighboring towns, Villajoyosa was besieged by pirates, so they erected walls and watchtowers in strategic locations, and some of these can still be seen today.
In its old town is the Fisherman’s Quarter with wonderfully colorful houses. They say that once the fishermen painted the facades of their houses with bright colors so that they could be identified from the sea and facilitate the exchange of signals.
It has 15 kilometers of coastline spread over 15 beautiful beaches. The water is very warm and is usually very crystalline, as is common in the Mediterranean.
The factories of the great Spanish chocolate and nougat brands – Valor Chocolates, Clavileño Chocolates and Carremi Turrones – are all in Villajoyosa and Sheila wouldn’t let me near any of them!!
And in Villajoyosa they look after everything in winter….

They even have lovely knitted coats on the trees!

Great photos.

Well Done! There seems to be no one in Carcasonne except you two & the dogs that think you are both mad, judging from the expression on their mugs! Love Joan
