As we were driving along the Meudejar motorway on the way to Teruel a surreal scene greeted us – line after line of enormous jumbo jets appeared silhouetted against the horizon!! No it wasn’t a mirage, but the site of the largest industrial airport in Europe! There you are now, bet you didn’t know that!

It’s located just outside the town of Teruel. It is not a typical airport! There are no commercial flights here, this airport was built to host aircraft from all over the world that have been withdrawn from service, be it temporarily or permanently, and caters to their maintenance needs. However, it is not an aircraft junkyard.
Some aging airliners may be scrapped here (after being stripped for valuable parts and spares) but plenty of new, perfectly serviceable aircraft are stored in Teruel.
